Points-based system

Points-based system

The control of migrant workers coming in to the UK is undertaken by the UK Visas and Immigration authority (UKVI). To employ migrants, it is essential to comply with the UK’s immigration laws and the UKVI’s requirements, which are set out in a points-based system (PBS).

The PBS is divided into 5 Tiers, of which Tiers 2 (skilled workers) and 5 (temporary workers) are usually relevant to employers wishing to employ migrant workers. These Tiers take account of the nature of the job, the applicant’s personal circumstances and (in most cases) evidence of skills shortage for the vacancy. Find more information about Tiers under the points-based system’ here.
